Trout Opera Company (广州鳟鱼歌剧艺术团) is the first professional opera company established in South China. Based in Guangzhou, it is also the first Chinese western opera company that is not affiliated with any governmental institutions. Renowned mezzo-soprano Yun Deng, the first Chinese opera singer contracted by the New York Metropolitan Opera, acts as the company's artistic director.
After four years studied with The American Opera Center in The Juilliard School at New York,she made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Olga in Eugene Onegin, she became the first principal artist of Chinese origin on the Met. She has sung in the Met Productions of Madame Butterfly, Parsifal, Rigoletto, Manon Lescaut etc. In the past seasons Yun Deng has performed widespread in the world. She has play the leading roles in Carmen, Samson et Dalila, IL Trovatore, Aida, Norma, Suor Angelica etc., included the Chinese opera Savage Land with the Washington Opera production in 1992. She performed Verdi Requiem in Carnegie Hall at 2000.
In 2003, Yun Deng started the Guangzhou Opera Institute in China and began to promote the operas,to nurture aspiring young artists. In 2010, She started the Guangzhou Trout Opera , produced the western operas and the Chinese modern operas, of which The Marriage of Figaro direct by her. Yun Deng made her contribution towards the eventual melting of the two Eastern- Western cultures. |
Songstress Miss Foy is an award-winning actress, symphony concert performer and recording artist whose career spans from New York's Carnegie Hall, Tokyo's NHK Symphony Orchestra and London's Philharmonic Orchestra. As an original cast member of the New York Musical hit "Song of Singapore", Ms. Foy received a New York Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance. More recently, she was cast in the key role of "Bloody Mary" in the National Tour of New York Lincoln Center's production of Rogers and Hammersteins renowned classic "South Pacific ".
At home in Hawaii, she has been a frequent performer with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, Hawaii Opera Theatre, Hawaii Theatre and Diamond Head Theatre. She is a 4 times Best Actress Award Winner in Musical Productions. In her spare time, Ms. Foy is a passionate community volunteer for numerous charitable and public organizations including the American Lung Association of Hawaii for which she created the annual "Breathe Concert". Through her music, she is recognized as Hawaii's most ardent "Ambassador of Aloha" wherever she sings or performs.
